The D. E. Shaw group is a global investment and technology development firm founded in New York in 1988. It was an early pioneer in computational finance and today combines systematic investing with fundamental analysis and discretionary investing across public and private markets.
The firm applies research, data, technology and trading infrastructure to pursue risk-adjusted returns for investors. Its investment activities span multi-strategy hedge funds and a range of systematic and discretionary approaches, supported by specialist research, trading and operational teams.
As of June 2026, the firm had more than US$100 billion in investment and committed capital and more than 3,000 people globally. It was founded by David E. Shaw; day-to-day operations are overseen by a seven-person Executive Committee.
